The Clothesline Art Show and Sale returns for 58th year to Hudson

THe Hudson Society of Artists will host its 58th annual Clothesline Art Show on

THe Hudson Society of Artists will host its 58th annual Clothesline Art Show on June 16-17 during the Hudson Home and Garden Tour. Artwork will be on display Friday, June 17 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, June 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the East Woods Intermediate School Commons, 120 N. Hayden Parkway along with the Hudson Garden Club's Garden Shop and Tea Room.

There will be about 250 paintings and artworks on display, including watercolors, oils, acrylics, photography and mixed-media pieces. Most pieces are unframed, matted and wrapped in protective plastic. Prices range from about $15 to $200. All artwork is original; there are never prints in the show.

At the first show in 1963, students of Hudson artist Lowell E. Smith hung their paintings from a clothesline on a porch on Division Street. Today, although the clothespins are clipped to aluminum panels indoors, the spirit of the show continues.

Ten percent of the proceeds from the Clothesline Art Show and other annual shows that the group sponsors benefit HSA's scholarship fund - the Lowell E. Smith/Margaret Roby Memorial Scholarship. Each year the award is presented to a senior Hudson High School art student.
